Erik Bakker, Wednesday 15th November, Afternoon

After having spent the morning on Kunahandhoo, we arrived by speedboat at Maamendhoo. Here we were greeted by the island council. Together we walked from the harbour towards the Maamendhoo school, where we were greeted in the school’s library by some very talented pupils. Here they presented their school’s approach to waste and their agricultural projects. The children’s presentations skills were unbelievable, we were all inspired by their confidence and the passion they showed for their schools sustainability initiatives.

Afterwards, we visited the local Waste Treatment Centre where we once again were welcomed very warmly with drinks and the islands most well-known karaoke singer; Najib! They explained to us how they segregated the waste and gave us the opportunity for a Q&A. For a last time Najib gave us the best show of his life after which we parted ways.
