the project

2 major issues,

2 design briefs,

60 solutions.

In collaboration with the United Nations, the TU Delft developed an architectural design brief for the students of the Architectural Engineering Master studio. The objective is to introduce an architectural setting to implement a new infrastructure in both waste management and food production on the Maldives.

The group is divided in two teams, each focusing on one issue. Prior to commencing the individual design projects, we will undertake an extensive research of the Maldives - the extreme location and climate, the constraints and opportunities resulting from that, the country’s history, present and future, economy, tourism, nature, people, culture and much more…

To round up our experience we are planning a visit to the Maldives for on-site research into these topics. This is going to be a great opportunity to become familiar with and gain first-hand knowledge about the local situation, which is crucial for a successful design approach. Moreover, we are looking forward to the great research opportunities and the cultural exchange with the locals.

Back in the Netherlands, we will work on our individual designs. With the expertise of our tutors and based on the experiences made and knowledge gained during our visit. We will create architectural designs for both, an Island Waste Centre and an Agricultural implementation. At the end of the semester, all results will be exhibited and we would like to invite all our sponsors and supporters to TU Delft for the final event. We are looking forward, not only to the final results but to a great time of research, knowledge exchange and networking ahead of us and we invite everyone that is interested to become part of this amazing project.
